PTSD: A Nationwide Epidemic for Military Veterans?

By Jim White

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is real, extremely debilitating, and is striking veterans at epidemic proportions, with some statistics reporting as many as 1 in 5 veterans being affected.

PTSD is not a diagnosis confined to those with a military service background, as Dr. White points out on The Liberty Brothers Radio Show. Sexual Assault, a car accident, a house-fire, or any other event which produces extreme stress can qualify you for this insidious malady. For this article and video, however, we focus the discussion on military veterans who suffer with PTSD, and specifically how veterans are being neglected by our government.

Dr. James White, Jr. has a heart for veterans. He served for 11 years in the US Army, during which he received an incredible 4 honorable discharges. Doc White left his distinguished military career to pursue health care, and, just like in the military, has enjoyed tremendous success.

Doc White has treated PTSD for many years, and can truly be considered an expert on the matter – especially PTSD within the military.  I have included a bio for Dr. White below:

Dr. James White, Jr. is a Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Specialist, and LMSW Social Worker with licensure/registration in all three specialties. He is Board Certified by the State of Michigan and American Nurses Association (ANA) as an Adult Registered Nurse Practitioner & Clinical Specialist. He is board certified as both a Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Clinical Specialist in adult psychiatric and mental health.

According to the International Council of Nurses, an NP/Advanced Practice Nurse is “a registered nurse who has acquired the expert knowledge base, complex decision-making skills and clinical competencies for expanded practice.” Nurse practitioners work together with other health care professionals to provide optimal care and treatment for patients and their families.

Dr.White’s interests include holistic intervention with children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. He has over thirty years of experience in delivering psychiatric services to various populations. He served as the Executive Director for Detroit Health Care for the Homeless, Inc. & other healthcare agencies.
